Lost Barrels – Spätburgunder for eternity
The winery Meyer-Näkel lost almost the entire 2020 vintage yield in the Ahr flood in July 2021.
"A stroke of luck in misfortune" sounds trite in relation to this tragedy of the century. However, it was essentially exactly that, when nine barrels, previously presumed lost, reappeared some villages downstream from the otherwise completely devastated winery, and were even recovered undamaged.
